Prayer Isn't Something You Get Good At — It's Something You Stay In

I got a short word this morning. Sometimes that is how it goes.

Nothing is impossible for God.

Five words. And somehow they were enough to sit with for a while.

I have been thinking about how we treat prayer like it is a skill to develop — like if we could just get the format right, find the right words, pray long enough, pray specifically enough, our relationship with God would level up. And there is something to growing in prayer. I am not dismissing that.

But what came up for me this morning was simpler. Talking with God is not a destination. It is a journey. Every single day is a new opportunity to cultivate that relationship — not to finally arrive at some perfect prayer practice, but to just stay in it. Keep showing up. Keep talking. Keep listening.

What "Nothing Is Impossible" Actually Sounds Like

When you are in a hard season, "nothing is impossible for God" can feel like a platitude. Someone says it and part of you wants to say — okay, but have you seen my situation? Have you looked at the numbers? Do you know how long this has been going on?

I have been there.

But here is what I think is actually being said: not that God will do everything you want exactly how you pictured it. It is that there is no situation too far gone, too complicated, too delayed, too broken for Him to move in. The impossible is not a category He is limited by.

That is different from saying everything turns out exactly how you planned. It is saying that whatever needs to happen — He can handle it. And that is enough to keep showing up to the conversation.

He Delights in You

This is the part that gets me. The word this morning included this: delight in him just as he delights in you.

He delights in you. Right now. In the season you are in. In the version of you that is still figuring things out.

Not the future you. Not the more disciplined version of you. You, today.

Delighting in God is not performing your best self for Him. It is enjoying who He is — His nature, His presence, the way He shows up, the peace He brings. The same way He enjoys you.

That is a relationship. Not a transaction.

What Keeps Us From Showing Up

A lot of people distance themselves from prayer because they feel like they have not earned the access. Too many mistakes. Stayed away too long. Do not know the right words. Do not know enough scripture.

That is not how this works.

The God who delights in you is not keeping a log of your absences. He is not tallying up your failed attempts at consistency. You have not missed so many days that you lost your place in line.

The door is still open. It was never closed. Come as you are — not as you think you should be. That has always been the invitation.

The Daily Practice

No big formula here. Just this: every morning is a new opportunity. Not to be perfect. Not to have the longest or most eloquent prayer. Just to show up and cultivate. To stay in the relationship the same way you stay in any relationship that matters — with presence, honesty, and consistency.

Talk to God like you are talking to someone who already knows everything and loves you anyway. Because that is exactly who He is.

And on the days when all you have got is five words — nothing is impossible for God — that is enough. Start there. He will meet you.
