The Kind Of Truth That Actually Sets You Free

I almost skipped today's verse of the day.

John 8:32. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. My first reaction was that we already know this, so what was there to actually journal about. Then I slowed down and realized I had never actually thought through what it means for my life, not just the words on the page.

Here is what got me. Think about how frustrating it is to watch someone on television talk like whatever they are saying is fact, when you know it is not true. They know it is not true too. And someone watching will believe it simply because that person said it with enough confidence and stood behind it long enough. We are living in a season where people are being convinced that truth is whatever they decide it is. That is not how truth actually works.

Scripture is clear on this, and I am thankful for it. We are not supposed to look for truth to be grounded in a person, a platform, or even in ourselves. Real truth can only be sourced from God. In the Bible, he is our creator, our ruler, our sustainer. His word carries the truth, and it was given to us so we could actually live according to what is real, not what someone talked us into believing.

When you keep yourself grounded in that truth, for real, you feel it. Peace shows up. Joy shows up. You get to live knowing you do not have to build your life on someone else's lies. They do not control you. You can tell the difference between what is true and what is just loud.

Here is where I have work to do. I remember themes. I remember the feeling of a passage and roughly what it was about. I do not always remember the actual verse or where to find it in scripture. That told me I need to get more intentional about memorizing God's word itself, not just the takeaway, so I can point straight to where the truth is coming from instead of paraphrasing it from memory.

The call to action today is simple. Take a few minutes and thank God for revealing himself to us through his word and for lighting up our lives with truth. I am thankful our creator is a truth teller. I am thankful he leads with love. I am thankful he does everything with integrity. He is the best role model we have, and he shows us exactly what to look for in the leaders we follow here on earth.

This is also why sharing your faith matters so much to me. We cannot be set free by truth we do not know. If I keep it to myself, it does nothing for the people around me who need it too. Be intentional about reading God's word. Be intentional about sharing it. His word is our foundation, and he shows us through his own example how to live and how to love people.
